THE Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution on September 7 commending the leadership of P/Lt. Col. Lawrence Keith Calub, officer-in-charge of the city police, and Mayor Belen Fernandez for the upgrading of the Dagupan Police Station into a Type C City Police Office (CPO).

Authored by Councilors Luis Samson Jr. and Jose Netu Tamayo, the resolution took note of Resolution No. 2025-0545 of the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM), chaired by Interior and Local Government Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla, that upgraded the Dagupan Police Station.

Tamayo, chair of the SP committee on laws, ordinances and judiciary, said the upgrade was proposed way back in 2000 when the chief of police was Lt. Colonel  Noli Talino, but Dagupan then did not meet the requirements in terms of population and income.

The city’s current population is about 180,000, and its annual income reached approximately P1.3 million.

In their resolution, Tamayo and Samson, chair of the committee on peace and order, said the upgrade is a “significant milestone for the safety, security and progress  of Dagupan City.”

The higher classification grants the Dagupan police force increased personnel, additional resources, and direct coordination with the Police Regional Office 1.

The mayor welcomed the upgrade as a victory for every Dagupeno, recognizing that a stronger and better-equipped police force translates into a safer, more secure, and more peaceful city.

Calub, meanwhile, said with the upgrade, the new CPO will be more capable in fulfilling its mandate to protect and serve, embracing the challenge with determination and in partnership with the community. (Leonardo Micua)
