Rosario touts flood control success in Manaoag
MANAOAG Mayor Jeremy Agerico “Ming” Rosario proudly declared on September 2 that his town has significantly reduced flooding incidents in recent years, thanks to a series of fully implemented and effective flood control projects.
“There are no ghost flood projects in Manaoag,” he said in a statement, emphasizing the transparency and effectiveness of infrastructure initiatives under his administration.
According to the mayor, over P300 million worth of flood control projects have been carried out in the municipality from 2022 to 2025, drastically improving water flow in the area’s major rivers and mitigating the long-standing problem of urban flooding.
Key to these improvements, he noted, is the riverbank protection infrastructure constructed along the town’s waterways, particularly the Aloragat and Angalacan Rivers.
Rosario extended his gratitude to former 4th District Rep. Christopher “Toff” de Venecia for supporting the projects.
“Floodwaters used to reach Barangay Poblacion and other low-lying areas due to overflowing rivers,” Rosario said. “But since the San Roque Dam became operational and these flood control systems were built, the situation has changed significantly.”
While the mayor acknowledged that some areas still experience minor flooding, he clarified that these are isolated incidents caused by low elevation or problems with local drainage systems—not systemic failure.
Rosario expressed hope that more infrastructure projects would be allocated to Manaoag in the coming years and urged national agencies to involve local government units (LGUs) in planning and implementation.
“We want to be involved in shaping these projects,” the mayor said. “Because it’s the LGUs who understand the actual needs on the ground.” (Ahikam Pasion)
