THE Dagupan City Health Office (CHO) Clinical Laboratory has been authorized by the Sangguniang Panlungsod to agree with a private firm for the disposal of hazardous and infectious waste materials, including their transport, treatment, storage, and final disposal.

Under the resolution, authored by Councilors Jalice Cayabyab and Michael Fernandez, the CHO is given the green light to ink a memorandum of agreement with Unified Hazewaste Expert Inc.

Mayor Belen Fernandez will be the signatory for the city government.

The company is an accredited and authorized hazardous waste service provider that complies with existing environmental and health regulations.

The resolution states the need for the city government, through the CHO Clinical Laboratory, to engage the services of a duly accredited private entity with technical expertise, facilities, and authorization from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department of Health (DOH) for the proper transport, treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous and infectious wastes.

Cayabyab, a doctor of medicine, cited several laws – Republic Act No. 6969 (Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes Control Act of 1990), Republic Act No. 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste  Management Act of 2000) – and DOH Administrative  Orders mandating the proper treatment and disposal of hazardous and infectious wastes to safeguard public health and the environment. (Leonardo Micua)
