Over 2k students at MNHS struggle with reading comprehension
MORE than 2,000 students from Mangaldan National High School (MNHS) are struggling with reading skills, a problem that has been impacting their academic performance, according to School Principal Eduardo Castillo.
In a recent hearing by the Sanggunian Bayan, Castillo disclosed that a significant number of students are unable to read properly or are having difficulties with reading comprehension.
Among the 2,000-plus affected students, approximately 1,700 are from the Junior High School level, with many unable to read English fluently. In addition, more than 500 students face challenges with reading Filipino.
The school has implemented an ARAL Program, designed to improve students’ reading skills. The program runs for eight weeks and is targeted at students facing the most severe difficulties in reading.
“We’re committed to helping our students develop the literacy skills they need to succeed,” Castillo said.
MNHS has been identified as having the highest number of students struggling with reading in the entire Region 1. (Ahikam Pasion)
