CONSTRUCTION of the P150-million Edades and Bernal Cultural Museum, located on a donated land along Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension in Dagupan City, is in full swing.

The project, which broke ground on November 15, 2024, will honor two national artists from the city — Victorio Edades (Painting) from Barangay Bolosan and Salvador Bernal (Theatre design) from Barangay Pantal.

The project will be done in three stages, with the first now ongoing through a P50-million funding from Senator Pia Cayetano. The rest of the funding will come from various government agencies until the project is completed within three years.

Former 4th District Rep. Christopher de Venecia initiated the project when he authored Republic Act 11726, a law establishing the museum, defining its objectives and fund appropriation.

De Venecia, who championed the creative arts in the 19th Congress, had earlier said that the project would not only seek to honor Edades and Bernal but also promote arts and culture to elevate the creative industry and tourism in Pangasinan and Region 1, particularly among millennials and Generation Z.

Implementors of the project are the Dagupan City government, the National Commission on Culture and the Arts, and the Department of Public Works and Highways.

When completed, the museum will serve as the cultural hub of arts and culture in Pangasinan and a repository of the works of both Edades and Bernal. (Leonardo Micua)
