FULL restoration of electricity in several towns in western Pangasinan that were battered by the most recent typhoon may take up to a month, according to the Pangasinan I Electric Cooperative (PANELCO 1.

In an interview with Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan, PANELCO 1 Chairman Engr. Allan Cerdan said they hope that the remaining damaged power lines and utility poles — particularly from the landfall of Typhoon Emong (international name: Go-may) last week — can be repaired as soon as possible.

“As of now, we’re targeting full restoration within a month,” he said.

Since Tuesday, July 29, PANELCO 1 has been receiving assistance in the restoration work from several power cooperatives, including Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative, Zambales 1 and 2, Peninsula Electric Cooperative, and PANELCO 3.

A total of 27 personnel from the Task Force Kapatid – deployed by the National Electrification Administration and the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (PhilRECA) — are currently on the ground using various equipment to expedite restoration efforts.

Based on PANELCO 1’s data as of July 30, only 20.83% of barangays in nine affected towns have had their power supply restored.

Out of 192 barangays, only 40 currently have electricity.

Cerdan reiterated that safety remains their top priority as restoration teams continue their work amid difficult terrain and weather conditions. (Ahikam Pasion)
