Parents call for more CCTV cameras for children’s protection 

PARENTS in Dagupan called for the installation of more CCTV cameras in public spaces as they expressed concern over the safety of their children amid rising crimes, including at school premises.

They said children could be better protected if there were a recording of people’s movements, particularly criminals. (Joana de Vera)

Police remind public: Bomb threat joke a no-no 

POLICE authorities reminded the public that making bomb jokes is punishable under the Revised Penal Code.

P/Lt. Colonel Lawrence Keith Calub, officer-in-charge of the Dagupan Police, said those making bomb jokes could face charges, citing the incident at PHINMA University of Pangasinan that was rocked by a bomb threat on Facebook posted by a person who used a dummy account. (Rona Racca)

Alaminos City worst hit by Typhoon “Emong”

ALAMINOS City was the worst hit area in western Pangasinan by Typhoon Emong, according to Mylene Manalastas of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

She said that as of August 2, the number of affected families reached 658 with 13,253 houses damaged, at least  1,541 totally, and 9,553 partially. Damage on palay stood at P15.2 million, another 4 million in vegetable and fruit trees, P13.5 million from salt farms, and P46.6million in fisheries. 100,000 dogs, cats given anti-rabies vaccine 

RECORDS from the Office of the Provincial Veterinary (OPVET) showed that some 100, 000 cats and dogs across  Pangasinan have so far been vaccinated against rabies this year.

Aside from giving free pet vaccination, OPVET is also ramping up the distribution of deworming medicines, castration of male animals, spraying of their fur, and providing advice to pet owners on how to take care of their pets. (Rona Racca)

Umingan poultry farm without permits closed 

A poultry farm in Barangay Fulgosina in Umingan was ordered closed by the municipal government for operating without a building, sanitary, and business permits.

The municipal government has intensified the strict enforcement of an ordinance regulating the operations of poultry and piggery farms in the town to ensure that they would not become a nuisance and affect the health of people in surrounding communities. (Mathew Pacheco)

Drainage canal in San Carlos City’s business district declogged 

THE San Carlos City government has declogged the drainage system in the central business district that overflowed and caused flood two weeks ago after days of monsoon rains.

Officials have also prepared a master plan for the upgrade of the drainage system as a long-term solution. They also called on the public to be more responsible in managing their solid waste so that these will not end up in drainage canals and again contribute to their clogging. (Jam Victorio)

Pangasinan’s inflation slightly increased

INFLATION in Pangasinan slightly increased to 3.3%  in July from 3.1%  in June, based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

The hike was attributed to price adjustments in restaurants, service accommodation, transportation and education sectors. The cost of power, liquor and beverages, tobacco, clothes wares as well as housewares also increased. (Mathew Pacheco)

Damaged Arellano St. directional sign removed 

A damaged directional sign mounted on an arch made of steel at the northern end of Arellano Street was removed by personnel of the City Engineering Office, led by City  Engr. Josephine Corpuz, with the help of the Dagupan Electric Corporation (DECORP).

The signage was damaged when it was rammed by a high truck, and posed a danger to pedestrians and motorists. The City Planning Office is now preparing a new directional sign. (Nil Moyano)
