Over P1B damage to palay recorded in Region 1

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) reported that more than P1.12 billion worth of palay were lost across Region 1 as a result of Typhoons Crising, Dante and Emong, which enhanced the prevailing southwest monsoon rains.

A couple farmer from Umingan told IFM News  Dagupan they lost almost their entire livelihood when the palay planted in their  1.5 hectare land was destroyed after being submerged in floodwaters. (Nil Moyano)

Dagupan evacuees return home

MORE than 6,000 residents of Dagupan City who were evacuated due to widespread flooding have returned home as of July 31.

The city is now under a state of calamity, and relief operations are continuing for affected families. (Mathew Pacheco)

Price freeze in effect for 60 days in calamity areas 

THE mandatory price freeze on basic commodities in Dagupan and 21 other towns and cities in Pangasinan that were declared under the state of calamity following the successive onslaughts of Typhoons Crising and Emong that enhanced the prevailing habagat or southwest monsoon.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) enjoined all retailers, distributors, and manufacturers of consumer goods to abide by the price freeze and warned that violators would face fines or imprisonment depending on the discretion of the court. (Jam Victoria)

Caranglaan evacuation center affected by flood 

THE Caranglaan Elementary School, which serves as an evacuation center for residents of Campaan and Hidalgo Streets as well as Campo 6, was not spared by floodwaters, but this did not pose any risk to the evacuees.

Barangay officials said 16 families were evacuated as flood water level in their areas reached as high as more than one meter on the night of July 23 (Joana de Vera)

1,399 families evacuated in Pangasinan due to flooding 

A total of 1,399 families or 4,636 individuals were evacuated in 16 towns and Dagupan City due to the widespread flooding spawned but Typhoons Crising and Emong, as well as the enhanced monsoon rains, that affected over a million people all over Pangasinan.

Office of the Civil Defense Regional Director Laurence Mina said his office deployed rescuers in several affected areas to seek out residents isolated by the flood, but still refused to leave to secure their properties. (Mathew Pacheco)

Dagupan government assists flood victims

RIGHT after Dagupan City was declared under a state of calamity on July 23, the local government immediately distributed relief goods to residents affected by the widespread flooding.

No theft recorded in Mangaldan before, during and after flood

THE Mangaldan police conducted 24/7 mobile patrols to secure the homes left by families who moved to evacuation shelters during the flood caused by intense rains.

P/Lt. Colonel Perlito Tuayon, chief of police of Mangaldan, said residents were sufficiently warned to lock or secure their homes first before heading to the evacuation centers, as thieves strike even during calamities. He said not a single incident of theft was recorded in the town before, during, and after the flood. DOH warns vs unguided use of antibiotic

THE Department of Health (DOH) in Region I warned the public against the use of the antibiotic Doxycycline against leptospirosis without a doctor’s prescription.

If inappropriately used, according to DOH, the medicine might lose its effectiveness, which means the patient will take longer to recover. It appealed to the public to first consult with a health professional before taking the medicine. (Joana de Vera)

Pangasinenses hail PBBM’s order to probe flood-mitigation projects 

RESIDENTS of Pangasinan hailed the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., specifically when he ordered the probe of all flood-mitigation projects that failed to address flooding issues across the country.

In his SONA, the President ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWSH) to submit to him a list of flood mitigation projects, ongoing or completed, hinting that some officials and contractors had connived as some, if not most, of these projects did not work. (Joana de Vera)
