TO BE USED FOR PATOGKAWEN RIVER

ANOTHER dredging machine has been deployed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to Dagupan City, which will be used at the Patogkawen River, one of the tributaries of the Sinocalan-Pantal River.

Mayor Belen Fernandez said this is the sixth dredging machine that the DPWH had so far sent to the city, four of which have been consistently dredging the Sinocalan-Pantal River, while the other is currently under repair.

City Engineer Josephine Corpuz, who accompanied the mayor and Councilor Michael Fernandez during an ocular inspection on August 19 on the ongoing dredging operations of the Patogkawen River, said this is part of DPWH’s maintenance activities.

Corpuz explained that DPWH is in charge of the upkeep of rivers, especially in line with flood control infrastructure.

She pointed out that dredging in Dagupan rivers is a must because these serve as the catch basin of all waters from the Cordillera mountains.

Dredging of the shallow Patogkawen River at the back of Nepo Mall is crucial as it conveys its water to the Sinocalan-Pantal River, the biggest water body in the city.

The mayor noted that DPWH Regional Director Rommel Tan kept his promise to bring one more dredging machine to Dagupan in answer to the call of barangay captains for an all-out dredging of their heavily silted creeks.

Councilor Fernandez assured that the city council, of which he is the floor leader, will support all requests from the local administration for help in flood mitigation. (Leonardo Micua)
