BAYAMBANG AND DAGUPAN UP NEXT
THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has opened a help desk in Malasiqui, the first of several planned in various towns, to provide easier access to services for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Pangasinan.
The help desk, located in Barangay Cabatling, officially began operating on July 23. It is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with staff available. A DMW officer will be present on Wednesdays.
In a statement, DMW Ilocos Region Officer-in-Charge Romeo Jaramilla announced that the services offered include Balik Manggagawa assistance, OFW record issuance, welfare support, and repatriation.
Other help desks will be opened next month in Bayambang and Dagupan City.
According to the 2023 data from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the Ilocos Region has 543,630 OFWs, but most of them, at 412,118, are inactive OWWA members. Out of the total, 490,512 are land-based workers, 42,346 are sea-based, and 10,772 are unidentified. (Ahikam Pasion)
