THE Commission on Elections (COMELEC) kicked off the 10-day voter registration on August 1 in line with the potential holding of the 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in December.
In an interview, Dagupan City Election Officer Atty. Michael Franks Sarmiento said they will be working intensively to register as many eligible voters as possible within the limited timeframe.
According to data from the last national and local elections in May this year, Dagupan had 144,416 registered voters.
For this registration period, COMELEC Dagupan has set an initial target of registering around 2,000 to 3,000 new voters.
To maximize accessibility, voter registration will not be limited to the COMELEC office located on the 2nd Floor of Dagupan City Hall, as teams will conduct Satellite Voter Registration in various strategic locations across the city.
On the first day of registration, COMELEC personnel will visit Barangay Pugaro, Barangay Carael on the second day, and Barangay Bonuan Binloc on Sunday.
Voter registration will run until August 10, while the filing period for Certificates of Candidacy (COC) is scheduled for October 1–7.
Sarmiento urged residents aged 15 to 17 to register, especially those eligible to vote in the SK elections. A birth certificate will be required as proof of identity and age.
Should the December 1 BSKE be postponed, COMELEC Dagupan is prepared to extend voter registration activities until July 2026. (Ahikam Pasion)
