San Fabian solar-powered irrigation system restored
THE solar-powered irrigation system in Barangay Inlambo, San Fabian, is finally back in operation after a five-year hiatus.
The local government undertook the restoration and immediately turned it over to the Inlambo Farmers Association, whose members use the facility to irrigate 10 to 15 hectares of land.

Obese cops in Region 1 do Zumba
THE Police Regional Office 1 has intensified its campaign to ensure that policemen have a sound body and mind and can readily meet the five-minute response time set by Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Nicolas Torre III.
Based on the data obtained by IFM Dagupan in June, a total of 1,892 uniformed and non-uniformed PNP personnel were found to be overweight or obese, while 7,723 are within the normal weight. The obese policemen of PRO 1 are now doing Zumba from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday to lose weight. (Mathew Pacheco)

Boat men risk their lives crossing swollen Pantal River
DRIVERS of motorboats confirmed having a hard time conveying passengers across the Pantal River because of the strong current flowing from upstream as a result of the rising floodwaters in both Dagupan and Calasiao.
Notwithstanding the risk on their lives, they said they must continue working to have an income and provide service. (Joana de Vera)

5 deaths due to rabies recorded in Region 1
SOME 62,000 animal bites were registered by the Department of Health-Center for Health Development in Region 1 in the first quarter of 2025, with five deaths due to rabies infection, including three in Pangasinan and one each in Ilocos Sur and La Union.

Tara Cave management plan being drawn up
THE Departments of Environment and Natural Resources, Tourism as well as Agriculture are now jointly drawing up a management plan for the Tara Cave in Bolinao, considered one of the natural heritages of the town.
The barangay council of Tara will manage the cave operations along with the Municipal Tourism Office and other government agencies.

PRO 1 nets 131 drug suspects in 1 month
IN just one month, the Police Regional Office I conducted 135 successful anti-drug operations, seizing 978.59 grams of shabu and 799.31 grams of dirtied marijuana leaves with a street value of P6.7 million. The biggest volume came from Pangasinan.

Kuliglig becomes popular transport in Dagupan
MULTI-PURPOSE hand tractors locally known as kuliglig that have been converted into a passenger vehicle are now the most sought-after transportation in flooded Dagupan City as public utility jeepneys halt operations.
Fruit seller Aldrin Perez of Sta. Barbara temporarily shifted to driving his kuliglig to ferry passengers as it brings in more income than his retail business. (Mathew Pacheco)

Chest-level flood in Dagupan’s Lasip Grande, Pogo Chico
AT least 34 individuals from Barangay Lasip Grande and Pogo Chico in Dagupan City were evacuated to the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome before floodwaters submerged their communities.
Composed of children and senior citizens, the evacuees said they fled their homes as the flood reached chest level in their barangays. (Nil Moyano)
