R1MC showcases development plan in 3 to 5 years
THE Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) outlined its development plan within three to five years in line with the enactment of Republic Act 12203, which expands the hospital’s bed capacity to 1,500 from the current 600.
R1MC Legal Officer Angela Mejia said construction of a new seven-story building is continuing while planning is underway for the hiring of more medical personnel as well as administration and support staff. (Mathew Pacheco)

5 more tsunami alarm stations set up in Dagupan
ANOTHER five community alerting stations were set up in Dagupan City as part of preparations for a potential tsunami that could be triggered by the “Big One” earthquake that may hit the northern island of Luzon.
According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, 12 barangays are at high risk in case of a tsunami. (Mathew Pacheco)

New guidelines on class suspension released
THE Department of Education (DepEd) reminded the public of the new guidelines for the suspension of classes in case of a typhoon issued by Secretary Sonny Angara last year.
Under DepEd Order No. 22, 2024, the local government unit has the authority to decide if there is no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal raised and the rainfall warning from the weather bureau PAGASA is at Yellow level. In case of Orange Warning, the school heads from pre-school to Grade 12 will decide on the class suspension, while in Red Warning means an automatic suspension of classes in all levels. (Nil Moyano)

Balikbayan box scam victimizes 15 OFWs
FIFTEEN overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from the Ilocos Region were victimized by a balikbayan box scam wherein the packages did not arrive at the delivery address, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
DMW OIC Assistant Director Romeo Jaramilla said the department extended a P30,000 assistance to each of the victims through the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan fund. He also called on other OFWs in the same situation to report the matter to DMW. (Mathew Pacheco)

‘Anti-Sardinas’ transport policy to be strictly implemented in Pangasinan
OFFICIALS of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region I met with members of the transport group in Pangasinan to discuss the upcoming strict implementation of the “Anti-Sardinas” policy that prohibits overloading.
LTO Regional Director Glorioso Daniel Martinez and Assistant Regional Director Eric Suriben presided over the meeting and emphasized that overloading buses, jeepneys and even UV vans is considered a threat to the safety of the riding public, and a violation of traffic rules and regulations that could mean penalties. Poblacion Oeste residents ask for concrete solutions to floods
RESIDENTS of Barangay Poblacion Oeste in Dagupan City called for a fast and concrete solution to the perennial flooding in their area during high tide, and more so when there is heavy rain.
Lydia Cornista told IFM News Dagupan that she and her family had been living there since 1969, but it was only in recent years that high tide from the adjacent Calmay River became more frequent, endangering their lives as their house is located near a creek. (Jam Victorio)

Tourists flock to Hundred Islands even during monsoon rains
THE Hundred Islands National Park in Alaminos City continues to draw tourists even during the rainy days.
Visitors interviewed by IFM News Dagupan said they opted to come because they can no longer cancel their hotel bookings in Lucap, the gateway to the Hundred Islands. (Joana de Vera)
