Mangaldan Comelec prepares for 2025 BSKE 

THE Commission on Elections, Municipal Treasury Office, and Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) in Mangaldan jointly opened ballot boxes that were used in the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections as part of preparations for the BSKE on December 1, notwithstanding a possible postponement by a year.

Municipal  Election Officer IV Gloria Cadiente said the contents of these ballot boxes, such as ballots, tally sheets and other paraphernalia, were taken out and inventoried before being placed in sacks. (Joana de Vera)

Traffic lights ease motor vehicle gridlocks in Calasiao 

THE constant traffic gridlock in Calasiao has been eased with the installation of traffic lights at the  Calasiao-Sta Barbara Junction Road.

Jessie Laforteza, supervisor of the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) in Calasiao, said the traffic lights significantly improved the flow of traffic as drivers became more disciplined. Nonetheless, traffic enforcers are still assigned in the area to observe traffic flow and remind drivers to observe road rules. (Rona Racca)

Bridge delay in Calasiao hit by motorists 

RESIDENTS of Calasiao criticized the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the snail-paced construction of a bridge in Barangay Talibaew, as its closure compels them to take a detour on a long route.

Engr. John Liwanag, chief of the construction section of the Pangasinan 4th District Engineering Office, said construction has been delayed by rains as well as difficulties in bringing the crane in due to high tension wires of the Dagupan Electric Corporation. He assured that the project is targeted for completion by October. (Mathew Pacheco)

Bolinao joins ranks of Pangasinan drug-cleared towns 

THE town of Bolinao was declared drug-free by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 1, joining 34 other towns in Pangasinan.

The town was conferred the  Balangay Excellence Award due to its comprehensive and relentless efforts exerted under the  Barangay Drug-Clearing Programs. (Jam Victorio)

THE National Nutrition Council (NNC) emphasized that food and nutrition security is a right and not a privilege.

DA steps up palay seed distribution 

THE Department of Agriculture is stepping up the distribution of certified palay seeds to registered farmers as the rice planting season starts.

There are currently about 500,000 farmers in Region 1 who have signed up at the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture. (Rona Racca)

Pangasinan jobseekers given cash aid

SOME 225 unemployed out-of-school youth in Pangasinan graduated from the 10-day Life Skills Training conducted by JobStart Philippines under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). The beneficiaries from  Dagupan City, Alaminos City, and Calasiao also received financial assistance of P4,200 each from DOLE, intended to serve as an allowance as they look for a job.

DOLE 1 Assistant Director Honorina Dian Baga said there were a total of 425 beneficiaries in Region 1, and 93 others are still undergoing training. (Mathew Pacheco)
