DTI: MSMEs can compete with big industries
THE Department of Trade and Industry Region I assured maximum support to all local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

DSWD gives out financial aid to newly hired workers
THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) extended financial assistance to 207 jobseekers who were hired on the spot during job fairs held from June 1 to 13.
Each hired worker received P5,000, drawn from the P1 million made available under the Employment Assistance Fund (EAF) of the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP). There were 105 applicants hired from Pangasinan, 46 from Ilocos Norte, 40 from Ilocos Sur and 16 from La Union. (Mathew Pacheco)

Oyster stalls in Lucao ordered to move back from the highway
SOME oyster vendors in Barargay Lucao, Dagupan City were asked to set back their stalls, which were only one meter from the road way, endangering themselves and their customers.
Motorists told IFM News Dagupan that vendors who were too close to the road run the risk of being hit by passing vehicles, while the vendors admitted they were told earlier by their barangay council not to extend their stalls dangerously close to the national highway. (Jam Victorio)

Some Dagupan schools short of classrooms
SOME of the 31 public elementary schools, eight public high schools, and three integrated schools in Dagupan City are implementing a shifting class schedule due to a shortage of classrooms vis-a-vis the number of learners who enrolled this school year.
City Schools Superintendent Rowena Banzon also said that because of floods during the rainy season and regular high tide, some classrooms could not be reached by learners and had to be accommodated in other classrooms. At the same time, Banzon said Dagupan City schools also lack computers and learning tools for pupils and students. (Joana de Vera)

Baay-Biec Road to save 22- minute travel time
CONSTRUCTION of the six-kilometer Lingayen-Binmaley Bypass Road is expected to ease the flow of traffic between Barangay Baay in Lingayen to Biec, Binmaley, shortening travel time by approximately 22 minutes.
The Department of Public Works and Highways, which is building the project, said once the road is completed, some 18,400 motorists who pass this stretch daily will benefit. (Joana de Vera)

Alaminos POSO cracks down on overcharging tricycles
THE Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) in Alaminos vowed to go after over-charging tricycle drivers to protect students who have gone back to their schools starting June 16.
In an interview by IFM News Dagupan, Alaminos POSO Chief Maridel Rabac said traffic enforcers were already deployed in various strategic places in a bid to apprehend tricycle drivers charging their passengers beyond their prescribed fare matrix. (Rona Racca)

Disasters preparedness stepped up in island villages
DISASTER preparedness training was stepped up for residents of all island barangays of Dagupan City under the auspices of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Pugaro Barangay Captain Nestor Victorio said the move aims to educate the people on what to do and where to go in the event of disasters, including typhoons, floods, and earthquakes. (Rona Racca)

Dasol poultry farm ordered to temporarily halt operation
THE local government of Dasol issued a 45-day cease and desist order to a poultry farm in Barangay Malimpin after it was found in an inspection to be causing widespread fly infestation that was affecting nearby residents.
Local health officials found out that he poultry farm lacks facilities to control pollution, noting that its exhaust fan nets are already old and full of holes and can no longer control pests from coming out of the farm. (Jam Victorio)
