DICT continues push for public service digitalization 

THE Department of Information, Communication and Technology (DITC) said the government continues to push for the digitalization of public services such as in transportation, education and agriculture.

Speaking during the  Kapihan sa Ilocos of PIA Ilocos Region 1, DICT Region 1 Director June Vincent Manuel Gaudan said that with the help of local governments, the country will be able to adopt digital technology more widely to improve efficiency and accessibility. (Mathew Pacheco)

Cases vs VM Rosario to continue despite resignation

THE cases filed against Binmaley Vice Mayor Simplicio Rosario will continue even if his irrevocable resignation was signed and approved by Governor Ramon Guico III.

In an interview, reelected Mayor Pedro Merrera III said Rosario was not absolved of all his cases before the Ombudsman and the Commission on Audit, even if he resigned. (Jam Victorio)

Dagupan POSO to secure students as school reopens

THE Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) of Dagupan is working with school authorities in ensuring the safety of learners going back to their respective classes starting June 16.

HIV cases in Region 1 continue to rise 

REGION 1 recorded 4,151 cases of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) from 1984 to March 2025, according to the data released by the Department of Health Center for Health Development Region 1.

The biggest number came from Pangasinan with 2,162, followed by La Union, 689; Ilocos Sur, 584; Ilocos Norte  461; and Dagupan City, 245.

Dr.  Rheuel Bobis, DOH-CHD spokesperson, said the most affected age groups are 25-35 years old and 15-24. (Mathew Pacheco)

Abolition of senior high school backed in Pangasinan

A resolution filed by Senator Jinggoy Estrada seeking to abolish the Senior High School (SHS) curriculum, which he said has not reached its target goal for the past 12 years, is backed by parents in Pangasinan.

A random interview of parents in the province indicates that they support the proposal as they see the SHS as an added financial burden. (Mathew Pacheco)

POSO enforces traffic rules on roads under construction 

THE Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) of Dagupan continues to direct daily traffic flow along all roads that are still under construction or rehabilitation by the Department of Public Works and Highways to minimize gridlocks.

POSO Chief Arvin Decano appealed to motorists to be a little more patient as the roads are now in the final phase of construction work. (Joana de Vera)

Five die of rabies in Region 1 

THE Department of Health-Center for Health Development Region 1 (CHD 1) registered five deaths due to rabies in Region 1 from January to May this year, with two from Pangasinan and one each from Dagupan City, La Union and Ilocos Sur.

In an interview by IFM News Dagupan, CHD 1 Spokesperson Dr. Rheuel Bobis said those who died either did not get anti-rabies injection or failed to complete their injections. He urged pet owners to have their dogs and cats vaccinated yearly. (Mathew Pacheco)

School supplies’ prices unchanged 

PRICES of school supplies in Pangasinan were still unchanged from last year’s rates, even as parents rush to buy the school needs of their children for the opening of classes on June 16.

The Department of Trade and Industry is constantly monitoring shopping malls and other retailers to ensure compliance with the agency’s suggested retail price or SRP for these products.
