Hailstorm hits 2 Pangasinan towns
MANAOAG and Mapandan experienced hail hailstorm on May 5 as heavy rain poured across Pangasinan.
Hail forms when raindrops are carried upward by a thunderstorm into an extremely cold region in the atmosphere, freezing them into sizable ice balls, according to Engr. Jose Estrada Jr., chief meteorologist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in Dagupan City.
He noted that this occurrence is typical during the country’s summer period, particularly from March to May.
The chance for hailstorms occurring again in various areas of the province is high as the temperature continues to rise and conditions with dense clouds persist where low pressure develops. (Kim Gealogo)
