7K PPCRV volunteers to cover Pangasinan elections
PREPARATIONS are well underway for the May 12 National and Local Elections in Pangasinan, and over 7,000 volunteers under the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) are also set to monitor the electoral process throughout the province.
Janice Hebron, PPCRV Pangasinan lay coordinator, said the organization’s main task is to ensure the presence of election watchers in all polling precincts.
Additionally, voter assistance desks will be established at every voting center.
A general assembly for volunteers is scheduled on Saturday, May 3, where various activities are set, including a “Walk for Clean, Honest, Accountable, Meaningful, and Peaceful Elections” (CHAMP), followed by a mass and a General Orientation Assembly for the volunteers.
Meanwhile, Hebron noted that their office has received numerous reports regarding vote-buying and other election violations, which are being referred to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).
She expressed concern about the prevalence of vote-buying practices, indicating that it has become a troubling cultural issue in Pangasinan. (Ahikam Pasion)
