Lingayens bagoong industry thrives

THE bagoong industry in Lingayen continues to grow, according to Daniel Bernal Jr., one of the biggest producers in the town.

Throughout the years, the industry continues to enjoy steady support from residents because it provides jobs, attracts tourists, and promotes the indigenous culture of Lingayen. A by-product of bagoong, patis, has also become a popular product. (Joana de Vera)

30 Dagupan schools tapped as voting centers 

THIRTY schools in Dagupan City will be used as Voting Centers during the May 12, 2025 mid-term elections, according to City Elections Officer Michael Franks Sarmiento, who assured that all these are now being readied.

At the same time, a contingency plan using a satellite system is in place in case the internet service fouls up and prevents the immediate transmission of votes by the counting machines. (Mathew Pacheco)

PSU suspends wearing of school uniform 

THE Pangasinan State University temporarily suspended its policy requiring students, faculty members and employees to wear their uniform in consideration of the extreme heat index in the province.

Employees are now allowed to wear smart casual attire, while students can come to school in white shirts and blouse. (Jam Victorio)

Dagupan under enhanced security prior to polls

ENHANCED security will be in effect in Dagupan City during the campaign period due to the foreseen intense political rivalries among candidates, and in order to deter vote-buying and selling.

P/Lt. Colonel Brendon Palisoc, Dagupan chief of police, said as the city was classified under orange category or an area of concern, policemen now patrol all barangays 24/7 to ensure that any threat to peace will be thwarted. He also called on the public to help the police ensure zero election-related incidents during the coming balloting. ‘Harabas’ continues rampage in Bayambang onion farms 

ONION farmers in Bayambang continue to suffer significant losses due to the continuing infestation of the tiny pest called army worms or locally known as harabas.

Melvin Lagoy,  an onion  farmer, told IFM Dagupan that he and other farmers planted only limited areas this season because they are aware that harabas has not been fully licked despite their continued use of different kinds of pesticides. (Bernadette Tucay)

BFP records 105 fires in Pangasinan 

There were 105 fires recorded in Pangasinan by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) from January 1 to March 20 this year.

F/Senior Inspector Gian Gloreine Galano said the tally includes 55 structural or fires that broke out in residential and commercial buildings; 28 non-structural fires or grassfires and garbage fires; and 12 vehicular fires.  (Mathew Pacheco)

Lingayen cottage, shed owners told to safeguard guests 

LINGAYEN Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil, following another drowning incident recently, warned cottage and shed owners in the Lingayen Beach that their establishments may face closure if any more such incident occurs.

He said these business owners are obligated to take measures to ensure the safety of their guests. (Jam Victorio)

Closed Maples River Resort still draws tourists 

DESPITE the announced closure of the Maples River Resort in Aguilar, it still continues to draw droves of tourists to swim and have a picnic.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources ordered the closure of the place in February following numerous incidents of forest fires at the mountain adjacent to the Maples River.  Unable to stop the arrival of visitors, the Sangguniang Kabataan of Aguilar, the designated overseer of the place, is constantly reminding visitors not to throw their lighted cigarette butts that may cause forest fires.
