Elevated Herrero-Perez Road ready for opening
OTHER STREET PROJECTS UNDERWAY
THE newly rebuilt Herero-Perez Road connecting A.B. Fernandez Avenue to Perez Boulevard has been completed and is expected to be opened to vehicular traffic by April.
Mayor Belen Fernandez said the old Herero-Perez street which was perennially flooded after every heavy rains and high tide was elevated beyond flood level and installed with a bigger and wider drainage system connected to the one on Perez Boulevard.
Built at a cost of P26 million from city government funds, it is seen to help decongest heavy traffic along M.H. Del Pilar and A.B. Fernandez Avenue, according to City Engineer Josephine Corpuz, who accompanied the mayor when she inspected the project.
The next side street to be elevated is the MRR Road leading to A.B. Fernandez Avenue in Barangay Tambac, an alternate route for vehicles bound for Mangaldan, San Fabian, and Manaoag.
A P15 million budget has been set for the elevation of the 285 lineal meter road with two- meter sidewalks on both sides and a bigger and wider drainage system.
Officials of Barangay Mayombo appealed to the city government to elevate the MRR Road where runoff water usually accumulated during rainy days for the past 20 years.
The mayor further announced that the Jose Calimlim Street is also set to be completed while the elevation of Jovellanos Street on the side of the St. John the Evangelist Cathedral is ongoing.
All these were funded from parts of the P557 supplemental budget passed by the minority-led Sanggunian Panlungsod in November 2024 when three members of the majority bloc were suspended by the Office of the President. (Leonardo Micua)
