COMELEC launches ‘anti-vote-buying’ committees
THE Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Region 1 launched the “Committee on Kontra Bigay” project, aimed at preventing candidates from engaging in vote-buying activities.
Local committees have been activated in various municipalities where the public can report incidents of vote-buying, and lodge related complaints.
These committees will work in collaboration with several agencies, including the Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Commission on Audit (COA), Department of Education (DEPED), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), accredited citizen groups such as the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), NAMFREL (National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections), and LENTE (Legal Network for Truthful Elections).
COMELEC emphasized that the success of this initiative will rely heavily on receiving formal complaints from the people as it reiterated its call for everyone’s cooperation in ensuring a fair electoral process. (Ahikam Pasion)
