Comelec intensifies monitoring vs vote buying
WITH just a few weeks before the May 12 national and local elections, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has tightened its surveillance on vote-buying activities in an effort to ensure fair electoral practices.
This initiative is being supported by various organizations, including the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), the National Citizens Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL), and Legal Network for Truthful Elections (LENTE).
In a statement, Atty. Michael Franks Sarmiento, Dagupan election officer, reported that there have been no documented cases of vote-buying in the city so far, but they continue to closely monitor with the end goal of eliminating vote-buying completely.
He encouraged the public to report any observed instances of vote buying to the Philippine National Police, and emphasized the importance of documenting such situations, suggesting that video evidence could be particularly helpful when filing formal complaints. (Ahikam Pasion)
