Bantay Bigas slams Food Security Emergency on rice
THE declaration of a Food Security Emergency on Rice is a big mistake and is bound to fail, according to the group Bantay Bigas.
In an exclusive interview by IFM News Dagupan, Bantay Bigas Spokesperson Cathy Estavillo said the cheap rice from the National Food Authority (NFA) rice has not reached the remotest parts of the country, making the program limited and geographically selective. At the same time, the low buying price of palay by NFA at P22 for dried palay and P17 for the wet palay is disadvantageous to farmers. (Mathew Pacheco)
