Manaoag sets up Task Force Kontra Langaw
SAME ISSUE IN INFANTA TOWN
THE Manaoag local government set up a team to address the escalating problem of fly infestation in Barangay Babasit and surrounding areas, and the concerns over food safety and health.
Mayor Jeremy Agerico Rosario said the ‘Task Force Kontra Langaw’ will conduct rigorous monitoring and warn poultry farms, which are the suspected as the primary source of the infestation due to violations of sanitation codes and regulations.
The task force is composed of representatives from various local government offices, including the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office Municipal Agriculture Office, Sanitation Office, and the Manaoag Police.
They were instructed to immediately carry out inspections of poultry farms located in Barangays Inamotan, Cabanbanan, Baritao, Mermer, Babasit, and Lipit Sur, focusing on facilities that could breed flies, such as waste disposal sites and feed storage areas.
In 2024, a poultry farm in Barangay Babasit was temporarily closed for violations.
Meanwhile, in Infanta town, residents in Sitio Maringindingin, Barangay Patima called on local authorities to address a similar fly infestation reportedly caused by several poultry farms.
Recent videos shared on social media show residents resorting to using dust pans to catch the flies swarming their homes.
In an interview with Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan, one affected resident said the fly issue has been persistent, particularly during the harvest season for chickens.
The resident expressed frustration saying that numerous complaints have been made to the town’s sanitation unit, yet no appropriate action has been taken.
The Sanitation Unit of Infanta has yet to reply to a request for comment. (Ahikam Pasion)
