42 school projects in Dagupan being rushed for school opening in June

A total of 42 projects, with a majority funded by the Dagupan City government, are ongoing in different public elementary and high schools, and construction will continue despite the ban on all public works projects during the current election period.

Speaking during the 2025 Parents-Teachers Associations Summit at CSI Stadia on Tuesday, March 4, Mayor Belen Fernandez said these projects include 21 school buildings, three of which were funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and one by the Abono Partylist.

The others are seven gymnasiums, two of which are funded by DPWH; eight separate site developments as well as the construction of perimeter fences of West Central Schools 1 and II.

The mayor said she has ordered City Engineer Josephine Corpuz to step up the construction of these projects so that they can be completed before the opening of classes in June this year as a bigger number of enrollees are anticipated.

Fernandez said these projects were proposed by barangay chairmen and school officials, in coordination with the City Schools Division Office headed by Dr. Rowena Banzon.

The PTA summit, attended by hundreds of parents and teachers from all over Dagupan, was the fifth one held in the city since Fernandez returned to office in 2022.

Noting the policy of the Department for Education that no one will be left behind, Fernandez said parents and teachers will be consulted on priority programs and projects to be undertaken in every public school in the city for the benefit of their children. (Leonardo Micua)
