Attempted kidnapping brushed aside as fake news 

THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office debunked a report that circulated in social media about a supposed attempted kidnapping of a student in Tayug.

Police Provincial Director Col. Rollyfer Capoquian said the reported abduction was just a figment of imagination and he called on the fake news peddlers to cease their illegal activities as they are causing undue alarm to the public, especially parents of students. (Mathew Pacheco)

 Inflation rate in Pangasinan at 2.6%

THE February inflation rate in Pangasinan stood at 2.6%, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) regional office, lower than the regional average but still faster than the inflation rate registered in the same month last year, which was only 1.5%. (Jam Victorio)

6 patrol vehicles turned over to 5 towns

THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office turned over six new patrol vehicles to the 5th District towns of Alcala, Pozorrubio, Bautista, Binalonan, Laoac and Sto. Tomas.

Police Provincial Director Col. Rollyfer Capoquian, in a ceremony at Camp Antonio Sison in Lingayen, said the vehicles worth P 11.4 million will enhance police operability, enabling them to respond to crimes faster and also help in the enforcement of the gun ban relative to the May 12, 2025 election. Towns, cities seek Comelec downgrade from yellow to green 

COMMISSION on Elections Region 1 Assistant Regional Director Reddy Balarbar said the cities and towns placed under yellow category have asked the poll body to lower their classification to green category as no political violence has been reported in their areas.

Police Provincial Director Col. Rollyfer Capoquian confirmed that no private armed groups were monitored in these areas and that the places tagged under the yellow category have no history of political unrest or violence, except that there is intense political rivalries among their candidates for the May 12 elections. Ayuda distribution prohibited during election period 

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has reiterated that the distribution of ayuda is strictly prohibited during the election period as provided for in the Omnibus Election Law, except for funds under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS), Sustainable Livelihood Program, and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps.

It also said candidates or campaign materials are not allowed to be present in areas where financial aid are being distributed. (Rona Racca)

Agno mayor denies fake news 

AGNO Mayor Gualberto Sison, in a post on his Facebook page, clarified that he had nothing to do with the discontinuation of work on the Ampi Magsaysay Road, stressing that he fully supports the national infrastructure project that will benefit the town.

According to some residents, work on the project actually had to be halted because the rice field that was expropriated, where the road will pass through, still needs to be assessed before payment to the owners. (Jam Victorio)

DA says soaring pork price due to source

THE Pangasinan Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) said there is sufficient pork supply in Pangasinan, but the reason for soaring market prices could be attributed to higher farm gate rates.

PVO OIC Dr. Arcely Robeniol said according to the Department of Agriculture (DA), the price of hogs at the source has increased.  The DA is now undertaking a program for the repopulation of hogs nationwide after the industry was devastated by the African Swine Fever. (Joana de Vera)

Eggs down to P6 apiece 

THE price of egg at the Dagupan City market plunged to a record low of P6 each, giving relief to consumers.  Vendors confirmed there is adequate supply of eggs from various poultry farms nowadays. (Ronna Racca)

DENR asked to address forest fires in Aguilar mountains 

A number of forest fires broke out in the mountains near Maples River, affecting several barangays in Aguilar.

Officials of these barangays have written to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to help them address the situation, which affects tourism in the area.
