Dense morning fog in Pangasinan due to ‘latent heat’
THE Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) explained that the occurrence of thick morning fog in Pangasinan and other northern areas during the past few days was the result of “latent heat” or better known as water vapor.
Engr. Jose Estrada Jr., chief meteorologist of PAGASA in Dagupan City, said water vapor is formed by the dry ground that gets wet because of the rains at night, resulting in thick fog in the early morning and lingers for several hours along with the water droplets.
He said this type of event is uncommon in humid weather but common in cold weather brought about by the northeast monsoon, localized thunderstorms at night, and shear lines.
Meanwhile, Estrada confirmed that there is a low possibility of a typhoon entering the country this month.
Additionally, cold weather is expected until the end of February and temperature is seen to rise by March due to the easterlies that will indicate the beginning of the summer season. (Kim Gealogo)
