110 HFMD cases logged in Pangasinan
THE Department of Health Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) in Ilocos Region is closely monitoring a rise in patients with hand-foot and-mouth disease (HFMD), with 110 recorded in Pangasinan, including 17 in Dagupan, the highest among all provinces in the region.
From January 1 to 18, 2025, there were 253 reported HFMD cases, an alarming increase from just 18 cases during the same period last year.
Dr. Rhuel Bobis, spokesperson for the DOH CHD-1, emphasized that the disease primarily affects children aged 1 to 4 years old and explained that the virus responsible for HFMD is found in respiratory organs, such as the nose and throat, and is transmitted through droplets.
Dr. Bobis urges parents to seek medical consultation immediately if their children exhibit symptoms of HFMD, including high fever and rashes. The DOH is providing guidance to help families navigate this health scare, ensuring children receive the care they need. (Ahikam Pasion)
