Poor water quality detected in Pangasinan’s western coast
THE coastal wasters of Bolinao and Anda, where fish cages abound, registered low dissolved oxygen levels, which is not conducive to the growth of fish being raised in captivity, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) based on recent water analysis.
At the same time, BFAR confirmed the presence of amnesic shellfish toxins in the coastal water of Barangays Lucas, Cayucay, Pangapisan and Mona in Alaminos City, while Diarrhetic Shellfih Toxins and planktons were detected by water sampling stations in Alaminos, Anda, Bani, Sual and Bolinao.
BFAR called on fish cage owners and all fish farmers to be on alert for any sign of fish kill that could cause significant financial loss. (Jam Victorio)
