Dagupan J.O. employees get P2K additional pay 

MAYOR Belen Fernandez announced that the salaries of job order employees in Dagupan have increased from P12,000 a month in 2024 to P14,000 a month this year owing to the passage by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Ordinance No. 2301-2024 or the city’s annual budget for 2025.

She said the P2,000 monthly increase is a recognition of their industry and dedication to their work. (Ronna Rocca)

Six towns, two cities tagged as areas of concern due to political rivalries

 THE provincial elections office has allayed public fears about the placing of several towns and cities in Pangasinan as “Yellow Areas of Concern” in connection with the May elections, saying this does not mean a prevalence of violence.

Provincial Elections Officer Ericson Oganiza explained that the reason why Aguilar, Binmaley, Mangaldan, Malasiqui, San Quintin, Sual, Dagupan and Urdaneta were placed as areas of concern was due mainly to perceived heated political rivalries among candidates in those areas. (Mathew Pacheco)

New Romulo Bridge in Bayambang to rise soon 

CONSTRUCTION of the new Carlos P. Romulo Bridge, also called Wawa Bridge, in Bayambang is set to start soon after the planned groundbreaking rites in March, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The two spans of the old structure collapsed in October 2022 due to the weight of a passing overloaded cargo truck. To keep traffic going from Pangasinan to Tarlac and vice versa; the DPWH installed a temporary one-way bailey bridge. (Jam Victorio)

Infanta holds coastal clean-up drive 

RESIDENTS of Infanta were called upon to join the coastal clean-up drives being spearheaded by the local government, along with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, Tourism Office, Public Information Office, Philippine Coast Guard,  Civilian Volunteer Organization, and students, among others.

Personnel of these agencies and other concerned citizens are regularly picking up garbage strewn along the coastal area of Sitio Banog in Barangay Cato. (Joana de Vera)

Over 3,000 cops manning Comelec checkpoints  

A total of 3,294 police personnel were deployed by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office in various checkpoints along the highways in a bid to strictly enforce the gun ban, which already started last January 12.

Police Public Information Officer Trisha Mae de Guzman said quick response teams will also be posted at every police assistance desk for emergencies. At the same time, she said that regular police patrols will be maintained in order to thwart any threat to peace. (Rona Racca)

10 fires recorded in Binmaley since New Year 

TWO fires were recorded in Binmaley only a day of each other last week, putting to 10 the number of fires that broke out in the town since the start of the year.

Razed were two residential houses in Barangay Calit, said Bureau of Fire Protection Senior Inspector Ciara Ley Capule. The first fire came from a laptop that over-heated when it was being charged. The Binmaley BFP also said that most of the fires recorded in 2024 were grass fires. (Rona Racca)

 Multiple collision in Rosales still under probe 

THE Rosales police is still investigating a multiple collision involving 14 vehicles along the Manila North Road in Barangay Carmen West last week.

P/Major Noel Cabacungan, chief of police of Rosales, confirmed that no casualties were reported in that situation and that the driver and helpers of a dump truck, which was believed to have caused the accident are now in police custody. (Ronna Racca)

 Event organizer swindles P5 million from clients  

A complaint has been filed before the police against an event organizer who reportedly failed to show up after receiving initial payment from her clients, a couple who are getting married.

Following the complaint, other reports came up from about 50 others who shared the same story. The suspect is believed to have swindled a total of P5 million from different clients. (Joana de Vera)
