Lingayen warns vs burning trash as MRF reopens

By January 27, 2025Inside News

THE Municipal Environment and Natural Resource Office (MENRO) of Lingayen again reminded the town residents that burning trash is prohibited under a national law and called on barangay officials to strictly enforce the ban.

Open burning is banned under Section 48 of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

The MENRO reminder posted in its Facebook page, was made after it announced the return of Metro Waste Solid Waste Management Corporation’s Sanitary Landfill in Urdaneta City, where the town of Lingayen brings its solid wastes.

The collection of trash at the Central Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Barangay Quibaol was suspended earlier for clearing, maintenance, and inspection activities but the weekly schedule of trash collection by barangay waste collectors at the Central MRF resumed on January 21.

Meanwhile, MENRO encouraged residents to segregate their trash and if they have vacant lots, to dig pits for decomposing biodegradable waste and sell recyclable trash to junk shops, while residual wastes should be placed in trash bags and covered properly for collection on their scheduled days.
