Dagupan vendors favor fish importation
FISH vendors at the Magsaysay Fish Market in Dagupan City are in favor of the importation of 8,000 metric tons of galunggong (scud fish) and mackerel, saying this will fill in the acute shortage of such varieties in the local market.
They said they used to receive 80 boxes of galunggong and mackerel from their suppliers, but the volume has recently gone down to only 10 boxes. (Joana dice Vera)

MISTING operations are in full swing in Dagupan City’s barangays as part of measures to get rid of mosquitoes that may carry the dengue virus.

13K dogs, cats get anti-rabies vaccine in Dagupan
SOME 13,000 dogs and cats have so far been given anti-rabies vaccine in 31 barangays of Dagupan City.
Dr. Daniel Pablo Garcia of the City Veterinary Office said his office also gave consultation and medicines to pets through their respective owners, whom they also reminded to always be responsible owners. (Joana de Vera)

Spike of flu-like disease expected
THE Department of Health-Center for Health Development Region 1 is anticipating and preparing for a rise in influenza-like illnesses with the prevailing colder temperature.
DOH-CHD 1 Spokesperson Dr. Rheuel Bobis said all government hospitals and health facilities in the region are ready to respond as he advised people with symptoms like high fever, cough and colds to immediately go to the nearest health center for consultation. Ban vs. “boga” intensified in Binalonan
THE Binalonan Police Station warned residents against using boga, one of the banned pyrotechnic devices, this holiday season.
P/Major Zynon Palking, chief of the Binalonan Police Station, said his office is now conducting operations in various barangays in a bid to arrest all those manufacturing and using banned pyrotechnics, saying a number of violators had already been arrested and charged. (Joana de Vera)

Bell pepper price spikes
THE price of bell pepper in Pangasinan has significantly gone up, with the red variety retailing at as much as P260 per kilo while green is even higher at P350/k.
Vendors said the price hike can be attributed to the usual increase of food commodities during the holiday season. Meanwhile, the price of onion is now pegged at P100 to P120/k while garlic at up to P140/k. (Rona Racca)

THE Lingayen Municipal Police Station has intensified its ‘Oplan Bandillo’ in a bid to protect traders in the town’s public market from thieves who appeared to have returned in droves this December.
Lingayen Police Officer-in-Charge P/Lt. Colonel Amor Mio Somine said the operation was relaunched as criminal elements take advantage of buyers who crowd the public market this holiday season.

ACM Roadshow launched by Comelec
THE Commission on Elections has rolled out its Automated Counting Machine Roadshow 2024 throughout the country, including Pangasinan, as part of its preparation for the 2025 National and Local Elections.

1.7 million PhilSys ID delivered in Region 1
THE Philippine Statistics Authority has so far issued and delivered 1.75 million PhilSys IDs to residents of the Ilocos Region, and the agency reiterated its call for others to register, especially mothers along with their children who are at least a year old.
PSA-Ilocos Region chief administrative officer Camille Carla Beltran said the recipients were among the 4.56 million who earlier underwent Step 2 of the Philsys registration process. residents of Region 1, especially mothers, to have themselves and their children be registered.

Bus companies prepare for passenger Christmas rush
BUS companies are now preparing their terminals in Dagupan City and for fielding more vehicles to accommodate the expected influx of passengers during the holidays.
Melchor Lopez, a terminal master of one of the bus companies, said passenger volume is seen to increase by 50-60% from the daily average.
