PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. told Pangasinenses last week that his administration seeks to further strengthen the government’s disaster preparedness program and capabilities.

Agri losses close to P1B due to typhoons
PANGASINAN’S agricultural sector sustained P982 million in damage due to the series of typhoons that hit the province in recent weeks, with farmers the worst affected as their crops were submerged in flood water, according to the Provincial Agricultural Office.
The Department of Agriculture, meanwhile, assured that help will be given to farmers as well as fishermen and livestock raisers affected by these natural calamities. (Mathews Pacheco)

Pork, chicken supplies in Mangaldan remain stable
THE volume of pork and dressed chicken being sold at the Mangaldan Public Market remained stable as of last week, and vendors said they were assured by suppliers that there will be enough deliveries before, during and after the holidays.

Cops deployed to secure public places during holiday
THE Pangasinan Police assured tighter security in all public places — including bus terminals, churches, public markets, shopping malls and tourist destinations — this Christmas season.
P/Colonel Rollyfer Capoquian, police provincial director, said at least 85% of the entire police force in Pangasinan will be deployed in the field to ensure the security and protection of visitors and holiday seekers converging at various public places. Calasiao barangay beefs up law vs. stray dogs
THE barangay council of Lasip, Calasiao vowed to intensify the enforcement of its ordinance called ‘Aso Mo, Itali Mo’ following an incident where stray dog attacked a two-year-old child playing in their neighborhood.
Lasip Barangay Chairman Dante Fernandez told IFM Radio Dagupan that a council meeting was convinced in the aftermath of the incident to consider stricter implementation of the law. Meanwhile, the child is now in stable condition after being injected with anti-rabies vaccine, and continuously being monitored. (Rona Racca)

Dengue cases spike in Calasiao
CASES of dengue in Calasiao spiked recently due to remaining stagnant water across the town following floods triggered by the series of typhoons and the overflowing of the Marusay River.
According to Dr. Patrick Angeles, Calasiao Municipal Health Officer, 359 cases of dengue were registered so far, compared to 115 logged in the same period last year. Three barangays were placed under the dengue watch list, namely: Malabago with 36 case; Buenlag, 31; and Nagsaing, 31. The MHO continues to conduct its information drive calling on communities to clean their surroundings to get rid of mosquito breeding grounds. (Mathew Pacheco)

Calasiao LGU reminds public on plastic ban
THE local government unit of Calasiao reminded its constituents that the plastic ban in the town — intended to reduce garbage volume and protect the environment — remains in effect, warning retailers of penalties and urging buyers to always bring their own recyclable shopping bags.
Teddy Tuliao, market administrator of Calasiao, said his office again held a dialogue with local traders to remind them a penalty of P1,000 for the first offense will be imposed against violators. (Mathew Pacheco)

Dagupan barangays tighten anti-stray dog ordinances
IN Dagupan City, a number of barangays have started reinforcing their respective ordinances mandating all residents to tie or keep their pet dogs within their premises.
In Mamalingling, barangay tanods patrol the streets at night to ensure that no dogs are let loose in the streets. In Barangay Mangin, an impounding area has been set up. Authorities in Dagupan called on the public to be responsible pet owners. (Joana de Vera)

Simple lanterns enjoy brisk sales
TRADITIONAL simple lanterns made of bamboo, crepe paper, and some plastic enjoy brisk sales in all public markets of Pangasinan with prices at affordable rates ranging from P25 to P50 each.
At the Calasiao Public Market, lanterns made from recycled bottles and soft drinks caps that sell at only P60 apiece have also become popular among buyers. (Joana de Vera)

Fruit prices soar due to typhoons
PRICES of fruits in various markets across Pangasinan remained high, with some further increasing, after the series of devastating typhoons that hit Northern Luzon.
Fruit vendors said their suppliers now charge P300 to P400 more than their old rate of P1,050 per box for certain varieties. Another round of increase is expected by the second week of December as demand surges during the holidays. (Joana de Vera)

Rice price rise in Pangasinan spikes anew
RICE prices in various public markets of Pangasinan spiked anew following the devastating flood that recently hit the rice-producing provinces of Cagayan and Isabela.

Dagupan parents ask DepEd to forego Christmas break for make-up classes
PARENTS in Dagupan City called on the Department of Education to order all schools to forgo the scheduled Christmas break and use the time instead to hold make-up classes for the 14 days of suspensions due to recent typhoons.
They cited the National Parent Teachers Association’s sentiment that face-to-face interaction with teachers is a better method of instruction than modular learning. (Joana de Vera)

Rosales launches emergency hotline 2441
THE local government of Rosales has launched emergency hotline 2441 — coinciding with the town’s ZIP code — for speedier response during natural disasters, health emergencies and accidents.
Mayor William Cesar said having their own emergency hotline is in line with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan of Rosales. (Jam Victorio)
