Over 16,000 families affected by Typhoon Pepito
MORE than 16,000 families, comprising 51,230 individuals, were affected by Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi) in Pangasinan, according to government officials during the weekend.
Most of the evacuees have returned to their homes, except some in Dagupan City, where flooding remains a concern, reported Pia Flores, assistant director of the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
Access to Malico, San Nicolas has also been affected due to landslides.
The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is coordinating with local government units (LGUs) to implement the Emergency Shelter Assistance Program for residents whose homes were damaged by the typhoon.
In agriculture, the PDRRMO estimated damage amounting to P11 million in mangoes, other fruit trees, and vegetables. The regional offices of the Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources are currently validating the impact of the typhoon while distributing buffer seeds and preparing fingerlings for affected farmers and fishermen.
Leilanie Bolivar, a social welfare officer from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, said all 16,414 affected households received Family Food Packs (FFPs) from their respective LGUs.
Bolivar also said an additional 20,000 FFPs have been prepared for distribution to LGUs based on their requests.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Ilocos Region positioned 75,411 family food packs and 9,695 non-food items in anticipation of the weather disturbance, with 6,207 FFPs and 656 non-food items stored in satellite warehouses across Pangasinan. (Ahikam Pasion)
