Amihan season finally starts
AFTER being blocked by the recent typhoons that entered the country, the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, has set in, marking a slight drop in temperature especially in the evening and early morning.
Weather bureau PAGASA said the onset of the amihan season was determined by “meteorological patterns” wherein the high-pressure area over Siberia in Russia has strengthened, resulting in a strong surge of northeasterly winds.
Jose Estrada Jr., chief metrologist of PAGASA Dagupan City, confirmed that over the next two weeks, successive surges of northeasterly winds are anticipated, resulting in a rise in atmospheric pressure and a drop of surface air temperature over Northern Luzon.
“The northeast monsoon is expected to bring strong northeasterly winds, cooler temperatures, and dry air across the country, with periodic changes expected in the months ahead,” he said.
Meanwhile, one to two more typhoons are expected to enter the country before the year ends, most likely in December. (Kim Gealogo)
