638 barangays in R1 at high risk of landslides, flooding
81 BARANGAYS IN PANGASINAN
THE Mines and Geosciences Bureau in the Ilocos Region (MGB-1) identified 638 barangays across four provinces that were highly vulnerable to landslides and flooding as storm Pepito neared Luzon in the wake of Typhoon Ofel.
In a press conference on Thursday, November 14, MGB-1 officials said majority of the high-risk barangays were located in La Union with 327; followed by Ilocos Norte with 183; Pangasinan, 81; and Ilocos Sur, 47.
In Pangasinan, the most vulnerable communities were concentrated in the towns of Pozorrubio, San Fabian, San Jacinto, San Manuel, San Nicolas, and Sison.
In La Union, the barangays at risk were in the municipalities of Agoo, Aringay, Bacnotan, Luna, Naguilian, Pugo, Rosario, Bagulin, Balaoan, San Gabriel, Bangar, Bauang, Burgos, Caba, San Juan, Santo Tomas, Santol, Tubao, and San Fernando City.
For Ilocos Norte: Adams, Nueva Era, Bacarra, Pagudpud, Bangui, Pasuquin, Burgos, Piddig, Carasi, San Nicolas, Dingras, Sarrat, Dumalneg, Solsona, Laoag City, and Vintar.
In Ilocos Sur: Alilem, Cervantes, Gregorio del Pilar, Quirino, San Emilio, Sigay, Sugpon, and Suyo.
Disaster management teams and community members were advised to be on alert for potential landslides, floods or flash floods as well as debris flows. (Ahikam Pasion)
