DTI reminds public on dangers of substandard Christmas lights
THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Pangasinan has warned the public anew against buying substandard Christmas lights that can easily overheat and cause a fire.
In an exclusive interview by IFM News Dagupan, DTI Provincial Director Natalia Dalaten said she has fielded a monitoring and inspection team to check Christmas Lights and electrical appliances being sold in markets and makeshift sites such as along sidewalks. She also reminded consumers to ensure that the products they buy bear the logo ICC if imported or the PS mark if locally manufactured. (Mathew Pacheco)

Pangasinan leads in cybercrime cases in Region 1
PANGASINAN logged the most number of complaints in Region 1 relating to cybercrimes, according to the Pangasinan Provincial Cyber Response Team (PPCRT) of the Philippine National Police.
In an exclusive interview by IFM News Dagupan, PPCRT Team Leader P/Lieutenant Sharmaine Jassie Labrado said 125 cybercrime cases were already received by her office since January this year, including 67 on online scams like estafa and swindling, and 17 computer-related identity theft. Dagupan bangus price up by P10/k
THE price of Dagupan bangus increased to P180 per kilo from P170/k last week due to low supply following the end of harvest season, according to vendors.
Meanwhile, the labeling of bangus based on point of origin is continuing at the Magsaysay Fish Market in Dagupan to provide transparency to buyers as Dagupan bangus fetches premium rate over those that come elsewhere. (Rona Racca)

P30M loan of Binmaley secured in 2008 questioned
A P30-million bank loan secured by the previous administration of Binmaley in 2008 was questioned by incumbent Mayor Pedro Merrera III, citing that there was no resolution from the Sanggunian Bayan authorizing such loan and that the municipality had no financial capability for repayment.
Current Vice Mayor Simplicio Rosario, who was mayor when the loan was obtained while Merrera was the vice mayor, explained that part of the loan was used for the construction of the new Binmaley Public Market, and the rest funded the construction of a multi-purpose evacuation center in Barangay Pallas. He said income from stall rental in the market were used to repay the loan. Merrera and Rosario are facing off in the mayoralty race in the May 2025 elections. (Jam Victorio)

126,400 riders violate law on mandatory wearing of reflectorized vest
A total of 126,400 motorcycle riders and tricycle drivers were reprimanded and fined for violating a provincial ordinance that mandates the wearing of reflectorized vests when riding a motorcycle, tricycle, and e-bikes along all public highways from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Based on the data from the Pangasinan police, 14,207 riders were given warning and the rest were fined. The provincial ordinance aims to reduce motor vehicle accidents. (Mathew Pacheco)

Youth called to be stewards of environment
THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Region 1 continues to encourage the youth to become stewards of the environment.
DENR Region 1 Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Raymundo Gayo said in an interview the youth have the highest potential to take care of the environment, specifically in their own hometowns, through simple gestures such as planting trees. (Mathew Pacheco)

Rice price in Bugallon expected to drop further
THE price of rice in Bugallon markets is expected to drop further as soon as the rice harvesting season is over, according to vendors, but farmers warn that rates might be affected by their difficulties in drying their harvest due to constant rains.

Flowers in Pangasinan costly as Undas nears
BARELY three weeks before the observance of All Saints’ Day on Nov. 1, the price of flowers in Pangasinan continues to be prohibitive, reaching as much as P150 per piece.
In an interview by IFM Dagupan, flower vendors said there is limited supply from Benguet following the series of typhoons and persistent rains in northern Luzon. (Rona Racca)

Parts of Calasiao, Mangaldan cemeteries still under water
THREE weeks before Undas, several sections of the public cemeteries in Calasiao and Mangaldan remained underwater on account of recent typhoons and persistent rains.
Calasiao Municipal Administrator Antonio Saplan, in an interview by IFM News Dagupan, said the local government continues to clear the cemetery but some parts are still inaccessible due to flooding. People traditionally start going to the cemeteries on Oct. 20 to clean the tombs of departed loved ones in preparation for the Nov. 1 commemoration of All Saints’ Day. (Jam Victorio)

Leptospirosis kills 24 in Pangasinan
A total of 24 persons in Pangasinan died from leptospirosis since the start of the rainy season this year, according to Dr. Rheuel Bobis of the Department of Health in Region 1.
He said the fatalities were among 62 persons afflicted by leptospirosis in Pangasinan and 19 others in Dagupan City. (Joana de Vera)
