THE proposed P1.6-billion budget and P2.351-billion Annual Investment Plan (AIP) for Dagupan City were submitted to the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) on October 8, more than a week ahead of the October 16 deadline set under the Local Government Code.

Mayor Belen Fernandez said the proposed budget, which is P500 million higher than this year’s fund, covers programs and projects to improve the lives of the people of Dagupan, including those under the 2024 proposed Supplemental Budget No. 2 that was bypassed by the SP majority.

The AIP, meanwhile, is based on a resolution approved by the Local Development Council.

Among the priority programs earmarked for next year are health services and nutrition, scholarships, special education, social services, gender and development, support to persons with disabilities, youth and sports development, agri-tourism and coastal management, aid to barangays, disaster management, peace and order, and anti-drug abuse.

Fernandez thanked all departments for the early submission of their respective spending plans to her office, which allowed for the timely completion of the city budget.

However, delays are expected in the SP’s approval of the proposed budget since 2025 is an election year and the council majority, composed of opposition members, could still derail the current administration’s programs and projects. (Leonardo Micua)
