YMCA-Nazareth road segment elevation starts

ELEVATION works have kicked off for the road segment in front of the YMCA building to Nazareth General Hospital, according to Dagupan Mayor Belen Fernandez.

A project of the Department of Public Works and Highways, in coordination with the Dagupan City government, the road elevation project seeks to finally end the perennial flooding of the area during heavy rains or high tide, or a combination of both.

Fernandez sought cooperation from the public as she apologized to motorists and pedestrians, for the temporary inconvenience during the construction period.

The Public Order and Safety Office will direct motorists to take alternate interior roads in Barangay Tapuac once construction goes into full gear.

The flood mitigation plan is to direct the flow of water that accumulates in front of YMCA and its peripheries during heavy rains to the Pantal River passing through Perez Boulevard.

Fernandez maintained that the elevation of roads and installation of drainage system is the real key to solving the age-old flooding in downtown Dagupan as proven by the almost completed projects of the DPWH on Arellano Street, A.B. Fernandez Avenue, Perez Boulevard and M.H. Del Pilar Street.

She said DPWH agreed to undertake more flood mitigation projects, build more flood control dikes and rehabilitate shallow and silted creeks in Dagupan to further minimize flooding following her recent meeting with DPWH Regional Director Rommel Tan and his staff in San Fernando City.
