Anti-drugs task force revived in Region 1

THE Seaport Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Force (SIADITF) has been revived in the Ilocos Region in a bid to stop the entry of illegal drugs through coastal areas as well as seaports.

SIADITF, first formed in 2017, was relaunched through a memorandum of agreement signed by officials of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Philippine Port Authority (PPA) and members of Region 1 Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs, which includes the Philippine National Police.

Substandard products again flooding the markets of Pangasinan

THE public had been warned anew from buying products from any outlet that has no Philippine Standard (PS) mark for locally manufactured ones, and an Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) for imported products.

The warning was made by DTI Provincial Director Natalie Dalaten to discourage unscrupulous traders from flooding the markets with substandard, unregistered, and fake products. (Joana de Vera)

Solar-powered irrigation turned over to Bolinao, Burgos farmers 

SOME 100 farmers from Bolinao and Burgos towns will benefit from the Solar-Powered Pump Irrigation Project turned over recently by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

Extended under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program-Irrigation Component (CARP-IC), the project will benefit 88 farmers from Barangay Catuday, Bolinao, and 33 other farmers from Barangay San Miguel, Burgos, said Alfred Amoloria, Division Manager B of CRP-IC Project Management Office of NIA central office. High compliance to reflective vest law observed

 THE number of vehicular accidents in Pangasinan is expected to be drastically reduced following the implementation of Provincial Ordinance No. 252-2024, which mandates the wearing of reflective vests by drivers of two- and three-wheeled vehicles while traveling along all highways in Pangasinan, especially at night.

Fourth District Provincial Board Member Jerry Agerico Rosario, principal author of the ordinance, observed that two months after the implementation of the ordinance mandating the wearing of reflective vests, a large number of cyclists and drivers of motorcycles, tricycle and tri-bike, and e-bikes have been compliant. Pangasinan 911 hotline receives 300,000 calls so far

MORE than 300,000 calls, mostly prank calls, have so far been received by the Pangasinan 911 hotline since it was launched in August this year by the Pangasinan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

Of the total 324,164 calls, only 554 were emergency cases and 123 were non-emergency but valid calls. The PDRRMO appealed to the public to stop making prank calls, which are a waste of resources and could get in the way of real emergency cases. (Rona Racca)

Bolinao seeks to amend existing traffic ordinance

THE Sangguniang Bayan of Bolinao seeks to amend its existing traffic ordinance to be in tune with the Road Action Safety Plan of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), intended to make local transportation more efficient, as mandated by the Department of Transportation.

This was bared during a public hearing conducted by the SB’s committee on Transportation, which was attended by officials of the LTO district in Alaminos City. (Jam Victorio)

Sexual abuse cases in Region 1 down 

THE number of recorded sexual abuse in Region 1 has been drastically reduced based on the data of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), but the agency called for continued vigilance against such crimes.

In an interview by IFM Dagupan, Clarivel Banzuela, chief of the Statutory Program of DSWD Field Office 1, said 70 cases of sexual abuse were recorded from January to August this year compared to the more than 200 for the whole year of 2023. (Joana de Vera)

No double TUPAD beneficiaries-DOLE 

THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) explained that beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanap-buhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) workers went through rigid profiling and verification contrary to reports that some workers are getting the TUPAD monetary benefit twice or even more.

DOLE Region 1 Director Exequiel Guzman said his office has a rigid system of selecting beneficiaries that can easily detect if a worker got the benefit more than his or her due, warning that anyone who will do this on purpose is committing an illegal act and could be slapped with criminal or civil offenses. No ASF-infected hogs in Basista slaughterhouse 

THE municipal government of Basista assured that pork being sold in the town’s public market are safe following a post from a netizen on social media claiming that pigs being butchered in the town’s slaughterhouse are infected with African Swine Fever.

Meat vendors asserted that local authorities are strictly enforcing measures to prevent the entry and butchering of ASF-infected hogs at the slaughterhouse. (Jam Victorio)
