SANTIAGO Island in Bolinao will finally be linked to mainland Pangasinan following the groundbreaking ceremony for a P1.9-billion bridge on September 1 and with construction expected to start immediately and be completed in three years.

The bridge, spanning 629 linear meters, lands at the Guiguiwanen Fishing Port in Barangay Luciente 1. It is part of the national government’s Sustainable Infrastructure Program Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG) Package 1 and the Basic Infrastructure Program (BIP).

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Director Ronnel Tan said the project is expected to be completed before the end of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’ administration.

He also noted the crucial support from First District Rep. Arthur Celeste and presidential sister Senator Imee Marcos in expediting the project. An initial fund of P130 million was allocated for the bridge and a complementary two-kilometer access road.

Celeste, whose family has long been pushing for the bridge, thanked Senator Marcos and the Marcos family for their help in advancing the project.

“This is just the beginning,” Marcos said, emphasizing the bridge’s potential to open further opportunities and improve access to essential services for local residents.

Governor Ramon Guico III said the bridge and other major infrastructure projects in Bolinao, including a proposed new airport will boost the town’s tourism industry.
