PH now bullying capital of the world—ACT partylist

THE Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) partylist expressed concern over the result of the survey conducted by the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) that the Philippines has now become the bullying capital of the world.

Dagupan schools asked to plant fruit trees, vegetables 

THE Dagupan City Agriculture Office (CAO) has asked the City Schools Division to order all schools in the city to plant fruit trees and assorted vegetables within their premises to become another source of nutritious food for students.

CAO made the call after it turned over fruit tree seedlings and assorted vegetables seeds to DepEd for distribution to various schools in a bid to spur food production and provide nutritious food to the school population. (Rona Racca

Random drug testing for incoming public officials backed

THE Commission on Elections and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) are ready to implement random drug testing should it be required on elected and appointed public officials, including those running for public office.

PDEA Provincial Director Rechie Camacho revealed that his office had long been advocating this move. However, Comelec Provincial Supervisor Marino Salas, a lawyer, revealed that there was already a Supreme Court ruling that such a requirement violated human rights. (Joana de Vera

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development continues to receive complaints on abuse of women, according to Clarival Banzudela, chief of the statutory division of DSWD, including sexual, emotional as well as financial.

Pangasinanans inflation rate jumps to 3.1% in July—PSA

THE inflation rate in Pangasinan last July went up to 3.1%, higher than the 2.7% recorded in June, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Rosales steps up drive vs. mufflers, unauthorized headlights

THE municipal government of Rosales has stepped up its information campaign against the use of unauthorized mufflers and headlights by motor vehicle owners in line with Administrative Order No. 2024-001 of the Land Transportation Office.

Lower tomato prices to last until September

THERE is an oversupply of tomatoes in Pangasinan due to over-production in the neighboring province of Nueva Ecija, and this is expected to continue until September, along with other crops such as okra.

As of last week, the retail price of tomato in markets dropped to as low as P40 per kilo from a high of P120/kilo. (Mathew Pacheco)
