50 motorcyclists getting apprehended daily for not wearing helmet 

THE Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) reported that up to 50 motorcycle riders are being apprehended in Dagupan daily for violation of the National Helmet Act or Republic Act 10054.

Dagupan POSO chief Arvin Decano said most of those being apprehended are student motorcycle riders who are not from Dagupan. He said POSO traffic enforcers are fanned out to different roads to strictly enforce the National Helmet Act and apprehend the violators.  (Rona Racca)

Dengue cases rising in Western Pangasinan 

THE Provincial Health Office confirmed the rising cases of dengue fever in Western Pangasinan.

The Western Pangasinan District Hospital in Alaminos City reported 129 patients were admitted from January to July this year, from six years old and older.  PHO said government hospitals have put up dengue fast lanes for immediate medical attention. (Joana de Vera)

Purok Kalusugan program kicks off in Dagupan

THE Purok Kalusugan, a new primary health care program of the Department of Health-Center for Health Development, was launched in Barangay Mayombo in Dagupan City last week to bring health services at the doorstep of the people in remote communities.

Led by DOH-CHD Regional Director Dr. Paula Sydiongco and Mayor Belen Fernandez, Purok Kalusugan formally launched the event attended by thousands of residents who sought medical help, i.e., vaccination, oral health, maternal health, tuberculosis control program, nutrition, non-communicable disease prevention and control program, and environmental and sanitation. Mental Health Council formed in Pangasinan 

THE Department of Health in Region 1 formed a Mental Health Council to address mental health-related issues in Pangasinan.

Members of the councils are representatives of CHEd, DILG, Commission on Human Rights, TESDA, PhilHealth, DepEd, CSC, DOLE and the Pangasinan provincial government. (Jam Victorio)

Pet vaccination versus rabies stepped up 

ANTI-RABIES vaccines were administered to 146,019 dogs and cats in the first quarter of year 2024.

The Provincial Veterinary Office said pet owners can bring their dogs/cats to its offices Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for vaccination or free vitamins and deworming pills. So far, only nine cases of rabies were reported this year in separate towns. (Rona Racca)

Barangay officials trained to suppress fires

MEMBERS of the Sangguniang Kabayaan, Barangay Health Workers and other volunteer workers in Bautista town underwent fire safety training to become Household Emergency Officers or HEROs.

The training aimed to increase the awareness of these officials on the dangers and origins of fires so that they can cascade these to members of their communities, including households. The trainees were taught on the proper use of fire extinguishers and conducted drills on how to suppress actual fires so that they can use their training whenever fires strike in their communities. Monsoon rains boon to agriculture 

THE enhanced monsoon rains triggered by Typhoon “Carina” last week were a boon to the farmers, according to the Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG).

While Engr. Rosendo So, SINAG founding chairman, said monsoon rains had only little effect on farmers who had just planted rice in their fields, still farmers hailed it because they were able to cultivate their farms and sowed rice seeds. He observed that most affected sector in Pangasinan were fish farmers who were forced to harvest their fish because of the intrusion of murky waters from the rivers into their fishponds. 66,00 hectares irrigated in Pangasinan

THE National Irrigation Administration in Pangasinan said it so far irrigated some 66,000 hectares of rainfed farms, according to Cipriano Yabut, chief of the Agno-Sinocalan River Irrigation System

He said they were able to bring water to 46,032 hectares, higher than its target of 42,573 hectares in addition to the other 20,032  hectares served by Communal Irrigation’s Systems of NIA. (Rona Racca)

Farmers get financial assistance from PCIC

THE Philippine Insurance Crop Corporation (PICC) will soon distribute financial assistance to 10,603 farmers in Region 1, whose crops were destroyed by enhanced monsoon rains brought by Typhoon “Carina”

PICC said the  P238,544  will be distributed to 8,706planting palay, 631 planting corn and 1,266 others planting high-value crops. The farmers were advised to go to the PCIC office to receive their financial assistance. (Mathew Pacheco)

Food, non-food packs from DSWD inspected 

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 1 inspected 3,600 food and non-food items before these were brought to the DSWD satellite office in Sta. Barbara for distribution to flood victims.

The inspection was conducted by the Commission on Audit to ensure the superior quality of every pack of food and non-food items to be distributed. DSWD also allocated additional 771 food packs to its satellite office in Rosales intended for affected families in Mangatarem. (Rona Racca)
