OCD warns of fake news during calamities 

ADREANNE Pagsolingan, Office of Civil Defense Region 1 spokesperson, warned the public of the proliferation of fake news in social media to mislead the public during calamities.

She said news or information from social media should always be verified by official sources or authorities. She cited the photo on social media about a landslide that purportedly occurred in Region 1 but which photo was taken about two or three years back.  A photo about the flood in Dagupan in 2018 was made to appear it was a recent photo. San Roque Dam can accommodate all water from upstream 

OFFICIALS of the San Roque Dam Corporation said the dam accommodated all the waters released by the Ambuklao and Binga dams located in the upper stream of the Agno River when their gates were opened at the height of monsoon rains enhanced by Typhoon Carina last week.

Last Thursday (August 1) at 9:00 a.m., the level of water of the San Roque Dam was 229.71 meter above sea level, down below the dam’s 280 masl spilling level. (Jam Victorio)

PDDRMO asks that pets must be saved too from flood 

THE Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) appealed to the public in Pangasinan that whenever there is flood and any kind of calamity, they must also secure their pets along with them.

The call was made by PDRRMO following photos uploaded on Facebook showing animals that died from the flood. A case in Mangaldan reported that a resident and his family who evacuated upon seeing that the Angalacan River was already rising fast, returned home to see all their pets dead. (Jam Victorio)

Soil erosion noted on side of Bayambang bridge 

SOIL erosion caused by the overflowing of the river under the bridge  due to onrushing floodwater from Tarlac was seen on the side of a new bridge being constructed linking Barangay San Gabriel 2 and Pantal in Bayambang due to continuous monsoon rains enhanced by Typhoon Carina.

The Baymabang Local Government immediately coordinated with the contractor of the project to fix the eroded area for the safety of the public. (Mathew Pacheco)

CDRRMO warns over rise in leptospirosis cases

THE residents of San Carlos City were advised by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to take the necessary precautions against leptospirosis, a disease that is prevalent after the flood.

The advice was issued after a number of children was seen wading and playing in floodwaters at the height of monsoon rains triggered by Typhoon Carina, unmindful of the diseases that they can get. It warned that the infection starts through open wounds in the feet or lower extremities when exposed to floodwater often mixed with urine of ratsg. (Joana de Vera)

DOH warns over WILD diseases

THE Department of Health Region 1 warned the public over the spread of W.I.L.D. (Water-borne diseases, Influenza, Leptospirosis and Dengue diseases prevalent during the current rainy season.\

Department of Health Regional Director Paula Paz Sydiongco advised parents not to let their children play under the rain or wade in floodwaters, that are breeding grounds of bacteria and virus. She warned families not to self-medicate if they are feeling unwell. She said all health centers and public hospitals are open to the public to help them in their health issues.

Lingayen still mulls over state of calamity 

LINGAYEN Mayor Bataoil, in a talk over IFM Dagupan, said 7 of the 32 affected barangays of his town, experienced severe flooding.

The Lingayen LGU already distributed relief and doxycycline tablets for those who waded in floodwaters and may have contracted leptospirosis and considered placing the town under the State of Calamity, but didn’t. (Mathew Pacheco)

Anti-drugs campaign intensified after PBBM’s SONA

The campaign against illegal drugs in Pangasinan  by PDEA was further intensified following the SONA of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, where he ordered more operations against illegal drugs without extermination.

PDEA Agent Jean Botes said among the activities to be intensified are anti-drug symposia in towns /cities and in Bureau of Jail Management and Penology detention facilities and coordination with LGUs for the establishment of their respective Balay Silangan. (Mathew Pacheco)

Top One Most wanted for rape arrested 

A construction worker from Barangay Puelay in Villasis and considered as No.1 Most Wanted in his town for raping his own niece, a minor, was recently arrested by the police.

The suspect, Leo Angelo Remoblas who on October 2023, allegedly raped his niece whom his sister left for him to watch and take care of, is facing cases of Qualified Rape and Rape through Sex Assault and was ordered by the court to post P120,000 bail for each of the two offenses. (Jam Victorio)
