Majority bloc asked to act on pending resolutions for health facilities
THE majority bloc in the Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) was urged to act on a resolution filed by the minority about a year ago authorizing Mayor Belen Fernandez to sign a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Health (DOH) for the establishment of a P150-million Mother and Child Hospital.
Councilor Dennis Canto raised the matter after the majority passed on July 30 an ordinance allocating P300,000 and P150,000 yearly funds to assist the primary clinic of the male and female dormitories, respectively, of the Dagupan District Jail, which is under the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and not the Dagupan City government.
He noted that the SP majority sponsored the passage of Ordinance No. 0-878 despite being informed that there were only two Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in the female dormitory and the whole facility caters to PDLs from other towns.
Canto cited that more Dagupeños will benefit from the planned MCH.
The minority councilor also asked the majority bloc about the status of another pending resolution covering Supplemental Budget No. 2-2024 in the amount of P157,000 part of which will be used to build a perimeter fence and purchase some fixtures for the newly-built Super Family Health Clinic in Barangay Bolosan, which are needed to start operations.
“We are appealing to the majority bloc to pay attention to these kinds of legislations that redound to the benefits of the majority of the Dagupeños,” he said.
The pending supplemental budget also allocates funds for the purchase of a lot in Barangay Malued as a site for another Super Family Health Clinic to be funded by DOH. (Leonardo Micua)
