Food poisoning downs 124 SK delegates in Subic

ABOUT 124 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) delegates from San Carlos City were rushed to different hospitals after food poisoning at a local government event held at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Olongapo City on August 6.

These 124 experienced diarrhea, vomiting, and dizziness after eating lunch at the Travelers Hotel and Event Center.

Still others from among the more than 150 participants at the event on Gender Awareness and Sensitivity training under th e Gender and Development (GAD), manifested milder symptoms.

The hotel, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), and the Olongapo City government immediately responded to the incident.

Olongapo City Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr., in a Facebook statement, said the delegates were rushed to the hospitals at around 3 p.m. after complaining of severe stomach pains.

San Carlos Mayor Julier ‘Ayoy’ Resuello, in a Facebook live video Tuesday night, said the supposed GAD training for the second batch on August 7 to 9 will be rescheduled.

He thanked the Olongapo local government under the leadership of Paulino and the SBMA for their swift action, and pledged to take care of the needs of affected SK delegates until they recover and return home. (Ahikam Pasion)
