AGuiLa reconfirms united front for 2025 elections
AGuiLa, a coalition of influential political leaders in Pangasinan that played a crucial role in the 2022 election victories of the province’s governor, vice governor and other officials, remains united and are preparing for an even stronger campaign in next year’s midterm elections.
This was underscored during a press conference held at the Urduja House on August 17 where Gov. Ramon Guico III dismissed rumors of AGuiLa’s dissolution, likening the coalition to a family that experiences conflicts but ultimately resolves issues for the good of Pangasinan. “We are still complete and happy,” he said.
Other AGuiLA founding members present at the media briefing were Reps. Art Celeste (1st District), Mark Cojuangco (2nd), and Ramon Guico Jr. (5th), the governor’s father; former Bayambang mayor Cezar Quiambao; Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrad Estrella III; and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan led by Vice Governor Mark Lambino.
One of the main points of contention among the group was the P75-million seawall project, put forward by Cojuangco’s predecessor and has been approved for national funding.
The governor expressed reservations about the project but has since supported as long as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources issues the necessary permits.
“That is why I called for a hearing in Congress. We will resolve that once and for all. That is a national government project,” Cojuangco said.
Guico and Cojuangco will both be running for reelection in the May elections.
“AGuiLa is very strong. And here it is again, after three years of elections, here it is again. AGuiLa is still here. And I think, stronger,” Quiambao said.
Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrad Estrella III said more people have actually been joining and the “group has grown.”
AGuiLa (Alyansang Guico-Lambino), was coined by Quiambao.
Others present at the gathering were Board Members Apolonia Bacay , Napoleon Fontelera, Philip Cruz, Haidee Pacheco, Shiela Baniqued, Vici Ventanilla, Marinor De Guzman, Jerry Agerico Rosario, Nicoli Jan Louie Sison, Former San Nicolas Mayor Vicky Saldivar, and former Urdaneta City Councilor Jesus “Isong” Basco.
