Dagupan ready for the “Big One”
MAYOR Belen Fernandez said the city government is ready to save lives if the ‘Big One’ strikes the city anytime soon because it has been coordinating Phivolcs, PAGASA, Office of the Defense and National and Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils to ensure a more effective and efficient response for any disaster.
She said the city already has an earthquake intensity meter, Tsunami Early Warning System, rainfall monitoring system and flood monitoring system already installed in Dagupan City.
The city has plans to acquire more equipment to prepare for a high magnitude earthquake and tsunami. (Rona Racca)

DENR to probe proliferation of commercial establishments in Malico
DENR Regional Director Atty. Crizaldy Barcelo said his office will conduct an investigation into the sudden proliferation of commercial establishments in Barangay Malico in San Nicolas town. He already set a meeting with his counterpart in Region 2 representatives of the Land Management Bureau of both Regions 1 and 2, to discuss the matter.
Barcelo said an inquiry will be done to determine whether the owners of commercial establishments are holding any legal and binding title to the properties they are occupying since the area occupied by commercial establishments are parts of ancestral domain that are beyond the commerce of man. Mangaldan allocates P7.5 million for education next year
THE Mangaldan local government set aside P7.5 million budget for programs and projects of the town’s educational sector for the year 2025 to cover the construction and repair of public school buildings and provision of facilities.
The budget also include the purchase of books and periodicals for the learners.

PhilRice seeds are of good quality
THE Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) guaranteed that the rice seeds they distribute to the farmers in the region are of good quality dispelling suspicions that the rice seeds provided to the farmers are of poor quality. PhilRice said if planted properly, the rice seeds will give higher yields per hectare than ordinary rice seeds, and also resistant to pests.
PhilRice reminded farmers that when sowing the seeds in dry rice beds, these must be protected from the rains to ensure their germination and growth. (Rona Racca)

Dagupan vows to clear foreshore lands from land grabbers
MAYOR Belen Fernandez said the clearing of the foreshore land areas of Dagupan from informal settlers or land grabbers is continuing, citing the removal of fences and makeshift structures in the foreshore areas.
She said the city government is conducting dialogues with those who put up permanent structures, for the demolition of their houses and buildings to spare them from court suits. The mayor maintained that the foreshore lands are owned by the state and therefore inalienable and not disposable. (Rona Racca)

Jeepney drivers, operators ask for more fuel subsidy
THE One Pangasinan Transport Federation (OPTF) appealed to the DOTr to grant fuel subsidy and extend the service contracting program to members the transport sector in the province
Bernard Tuliao, president of OPTF, said jeepney operators and drivers and their families cannot survive on their earnings because of the frequent increases in the price of fuel. He also asked Congress to amend the oil deregulation law to arrest the frequent price increases of imported gasoline, diesel and gas. (Jam Victorio)

Patronize local products, DA urges
THE Department of Agriculture urged consumers in Pangasinan to patronize agri and locally-produced products produced by Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)sold in Kadiwa ng Pangulo in Pangasinan. Among reasonably priced products are bottled bangus, flavored salt, dried fish, vegetables, handicrafts and others.
The Kadiwa ng Pangulo, a strategy to promote MSMSE products, is in line with the program Sama Samang Tangkilikin ang Produkto Natin para as Bagong Pilipinas. (Rona Racca)

Dagupan City Jail remains congested
THE congestion rate of the Dagupan City Jail Dormitory is still 332 percent from 376 percent during the first quarter of the year.
The Bureau of Jail and Penology said it is reviewing the cases of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) under their custody to ascertain who need to be transferred to the National Penitentiary in Muntinlupa. (Jam Victorio)

Two drug addicts graduate from Manaoag Balay Silangan
THE Balay Silangan of Manaoag graduated on Wednesday two drug addicts who completed their 30-day residential reformation program under the supervision of PDEA. However, both will still have to undergo two-month Family Drug Abuse Program and Livelihood Training before they can be released to rejoin the society.
The Manaoag Balay Silangan intends to accommodate more former drug addicts who also need to undergo 30-day residency reformation to enable them to also rejoin their family and society. (Jam Victorio)
