Mayor Merrera denies quarrying allegations at Binmaley Baywalk

MAYOR Pedro Merrera firmly denied allegations of Vice Mayor Sammy Rosario that he is behind illegal quarrying activities at the Baywalk area in Binmaley.

Mayor Merrera, in his rebuttal over Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan, explained that the accumulation of sand at the slope protection area has caused seawater to flood the Baywalk and already covered the drainage pipes that could otherwise help the water flow back to the sea.

In response to the allegations, the mayor challenged his vice mayor to visit the site personally to see the situation and  assist in resolving the issue instead of just making negative comments.

Currently, a grader and loader are being used to remove the sand from the road to prevent flooding at the Baywalk and to protect nearby establishments and residents.

Mayor Merrera also criticized the design of the seawall constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the area. He suggested that a curved design would be more effective in redirecting the water back to the sea, rather than allowing it to reach the land and nearby houses. (Ahikam Pasion)
