Dagupan COMELEC: Voter registration in barangays next

THE Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Dagupan City will soon conduct voter registration drives in barangays in preparation for the 2025 midterm elections.

In Dagupan City, Atty.Michael Sarmiento, the city election officer, said 90% of the targeted 133,000 registered voters have already been achieved and expects to surpass the target with the ongoing voter registration until September 30 this year.

He said, plans for the barangay satellite registration will soon be launched.

Meanwhile, Atty. Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor, said around 67,000 voters in Pangasinan have registered and his office is targeting the registration of 75,000 to 100,000 new voters. Pangasinan has a total of 2.056 million voters.

He said two automated counting machines are set to arrive in the province this July, to be used by the provincial COMELEC for demonstrations.

The COMELEC reminded that the election period will begin on January 12 up until June 11, 2025.

During the five-month election period, a gun ban shall be in effect and those interested to run for elections may file their respective certificates of candidacy from October 1 to October 8.

During these dates, party-list groups may also file their certificates of nomination and acceptance.

Local campaign period will begin on March 28 to May 10, 2025.  (Ahikam Pasion)
